Physical Education - Awards and Recognition
The P.E. department at Fairfield has a long tradition of excellence across a range of sports. This has been recognised in awards to the department and to individual pupils. We recently received an award from Tameside SSP for hosting a Virtual Sports Day during the school closure in 2020.
Tameside Inspire Awards
At the end of the Summer Term, P.E. colleagues attended the Inspire Tameside Sports Awards at the Village Hotel in Ashton. This event was established to celebrate, recognise and reward many schools for their commitment to sport, health and P.E. Fairfield High School for Girls was successful in winning the ‘outstanding contribution’ to sport award, as a result of consistently promoting sports participation through high attendance at competitions and the hosting of clubs and events.
Competitions
As is usual at Fairfield, we aim to give our girls as many opportunities as possible to represent school and take part in school sporting competitions. Over the last term, we have had teams from all year groups compete in the Tameside Football and Netball competitions as well as the Tameside Cross-Country competition.

Athletics
In the Tameside Schools Athletics Championships held in the summer term, Fairfield athletes performed brilliantly. The junior girls finished 4th overall, the intermediate girls finished 5th overall and Fairfield as a school finished 4th overall.

Cross Country
On Tuesday 3rd December, Fairfield hosted and took a team to the Tameside Cross-Country Championships. There were 16 schools from the borough competing, with many Fairfield pupils finishing in the top 20 of their race, out of a field of around 80 runners.
The results:
Year 7 team – 2nd place overall
Year 8/9 team – 1st place
Year 10/11 team – 1st place
The overall winner was Fairfield High School for Girls.
As a result of their amazing achievements, some pupils have been invited to represent the Tameside team in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships in February 2020.
Virtual Sports Day
On Friday 10th July all Fairfield girls are invited to participate in the Virtual Sports Day. We want our pupils to take part in as many events as possible. The instructions document below includes full details of how to compete in each event including what equipment is needed, how to record and submit your score and the competition format. There are video examples on Microsoft Teams for pupils to watch if necessary. Pupils should check their e-mail and the Virtual Sports Day Microsoft Teams group..... Read More.....
